Nature gets highest marks in North Cowichan citizen satisfaction survey
Overdevelopment of land cited as support declines for municipal changes
North Cowichan council this month released the results of a 2022 citizen satisfaction survey conducted by Forum Research.
Here are some key findings:
— Nature topped the list of why residents enjoy living here at 31 percent.
— 47 percent of residents support the changes to the municipality over the past five to 10 years, down from 76 percent support in a similar survey in 2019. Overdevelopment of land was cited as the leading reason for dissatisfaction.
— 95 percent rated their quality of life as good or very good.
— 89 percent are satisfied with the overall level and quality of services.
— 79 percent say they are receiving good value for their tax dollar.
— 50 percent support a tax increases to maintain service levels, while 13 percent support tax increases to expand or improve services.
— 52 percent get information about North Cowichan from the municipal website/platform compared with 12 percent from the local newspaper.
About 400 residents were surveyed. The margin of error is 4.9 percent 19 times out of 20.
